178th ASHC Boxcar resupplying FSB Young

This is FSB Young's resupply pad. The CH-47 Chinook helicopter is from the 178th Assault Support Helicopter Company, callsign Boxcars (note the double six's--boxcars-- on the dice on the forward pylon). Gary Noller says, "This is LZ Young's chopper pad, probably looking west-north-west. The Boxcar is unloading 1/46th Infantry troops in late 1970. The story has it that the 1/46th moved closer to the coast (from Mary Ann) so that it could be better supplied during the monsoon season. LZ Young was a PIT!" (Note the pilot's victory/peace sign he's giving the camera. Close-up photo below.) (Photo by Andy Olints, 1971, caption by Gary Noller, Americal Division Veterans Association National Commander)
